German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has announced plans to construct a new battery recycling factory in Kuppenheim, Germany. The new factory will have an annual capacity of 2,500 tonnes, with a recycling rate of more than 96 percent. This means that the factory will have the capacity to recycle most of the batteries used in electric vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz is partnering with technology firm Primobius to develop the factory. The investment for the project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection as part of a scientific research project.
