Lexus Australia has surpassed 10,000 hybrid vehicle sales as the technological pioneer enters its eighth year of offering the powerful yet economical drivetrain option in Australia.

The milestone has been achieved as Lexus prepares to launch its new-look CT 200h**.

In their eight years on sale these vehicles could have covered a cumulative distance long enough for a return trip to Mars* – with 470,100,000 kilometres^ covered by Lexus hybrids sold in Australia.

During this time more than 5000 Australians have purchased hybrid-powered RX SUVs, while close to 3700 Australians have enjoyed the economical and stylish CT 200h hatch.

Lexus boasts the most expansive hybrid range of any vehicle marque in Australia, with six models and seven powertrains – CT 200h, IS 300h, ES 300h, GS 300h, GS 450h, LS 600h and RX 450h.

Lexus Australia chief executive Sean Hanley said the luxury marque leads the Australian market in hybrid technology.

“Lexus was the first to launch with a luxury hybrid, the first to launch a hybrid SUV and the first to offer an expansive range of hybrids to consumers,” he said.

“As each year passes, the proportion of hybrids sold to Australian customers grows – back then we were at eight per cent, today we are closer to 35 per cent, and in the future it’s not unrealistic to think that half of our sales will be hybrids.

“The sale of 10,000 hybrids only confirms that this technology is driving the future, and that Lexus is forging the path that others follow,” Mr Hanley said.
