Tigerair Australia has expanded its partnership with BAE Systems, creating up to 40 new jobs at three airports.BAE Systems is now delivering line maintenance services for Tigerair’s fleet of A320 aircraft at Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane airports for the next five years.
Line maintenance provides overnight checks on terminating aircraft and 24 hour coverage for any engineering requirements.
This work builds on the overnight base maintenance services BAE Systems has been delivering for the airline at Melbourne airport since October 2013.
Tigerair Australia CEO Rob Sharp said the extension of the partnership with BAE Systems to perform line maintenance at all three aircraft bases in Australia is a logical one, which reinforces a commitment to strengthen the operational performance of the airline as part of the long term business strategy.
“With our new Brisbane base opening today, it is even more important that we continue to enhance our operation to support the growth. We believe the maintenance partnership is the right one to assist us to consistently provide the best in terms of safe, affordable and reliable air travel, which our customers demand.
“BAE Systems is recognised as one of the most experienced military aircraft sustainment providers in Australia. Since we transitioned to BAE Systems for our base maintenance, we’ve already seen efficiencies and improvements in our on time performance which is pleasing.
“It’s also positive news on the employment front as we’re creating up to 40 jobs in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne through the new line maintenance partnership,” he says.
BAE Systems Australia Aerospace Director Steve Drury said growing this partnership was very important.
“Our company has a long term strategy to diversify our customer base and enter adjacent markets. Our partnership with Tigerair is important to establishing our commercial aircraft maintenance business and we are pleased to now also provide line maintenance capability for the airline,” Mr Drury said.
Mr Drury said BAE Systems’ performance to date in supporting Tigerair at Melbourne Airport had demonstrated its proven aircraft maintenance performance, quality and safety record.
“We are proud that we are exceeding all performance metrics and delivering Tigerair the highest quality service on time. Our focus is now also on providing the same level of line maintenance service.”
