If you’re anything like me and you absolutely love travelling, I have a real treat for you. Assuming you have a smartphone like the majority of the population, I’ve got 12 amazing travel apps that will enhance your travels and make things even better than they already are. Unbelievable, right? Well, you better believe it…read on:

TripAdvisor

TripAdvisorIf you want to find painfully honest reviews on attractions, hotels, Citybase Apartments, and restaurants then this is the app for you. At just the touch of a button you can find out where the best places to visit are wherever you may be, so you don’t have to eat at a subpar restaurant or stay in a rubbish hotel ever again. The users are hard to please though, so don’t feel bad if there are a few rants written about your favourite places.

SkyScanner

Skyscanner

This app is easy to use with a clear navigation, so you can book your flights with ease. The best thing about it though is that it not only books your flights, but finds you the best possible deal too. It even goes as far as to check whether it would be cheaper for you to fly with two different airlines. Neat, huh?

FlightTrack

FlightTrack 5If you often see loved ones fly in from other countries, then FlightTrack allows you to preempt their every move. You’ll be well informed right down to a cancellation, so you know exactly when to expect your loved one home for dinner. A very well designed app.

WeatherPro

WeatherPro

Over 2 million locations are included in this fantastic app, so you know what the weather is like wherever you are going. Never be caught short again; you’ll know if the rain is torrential, so you can pack your sturdiest umbrella in advance. Some apps aren’t all that accurate, but this one is so accurate that it’s quite scary. If it says it’s going to be scorching hot, then you better pack your tiniest swimsuit!

JetLag Genie

JetLag Genie

Many people suffer with jet lag after travelling, but this app helps to ease the pain somewhat substantially. There is no scientific cure for this as of yet, so this app can do the job for us. You simply input where you’re going, how long for, and your usual sleeping times, and the app will help you by setting alarms designed to make things easier for you.

Packing Pro

Packing Pro

Ever have the horrible feeling that you’re forgetting something when you’re packing? I do all the time! This app is designed to banish those worries, so you can get on with being excited for your trip. Put in where you’re going, how long for, and who with, and it’ll suggest things that you might need to take with you. It even includes separate lists for certain family members sometimes!

Hostelworld

Hostelworld

If you’re travelling for a long time, it’s unlikely you have the cash to stay at a world class hotel. This is where Hostelworld comes in! The app contains thousands of great hostels available for you to stay in, so you never feel as if you’re paying through the nose for accommodation again. Perfect for people who are travelling all over the world and want to save their cash for more important things!

iCampsites

iCampsites

If you enjoy camping, this app includes over 800 great campsites in the UK and Europe, with reviews and pictures to go with it. Don’t worry if you think that you might have trouble finding the campsite either, as the app will give you GPS coordinates to help you on your way.

Foodspotting

Foodspotting

The great thing about this app is that it doesn’t just focus on great restaurants, it focuses on specific dishes. No matter where you are, you can input the food you fancy and you’ll be on your way to the most amazing place that sells it within minutes. Fancy Sushi in London? This app will take you to where you need to be.

Google Goggles

Google Goggles

While travelling, you’ll no doubt come across an interesting looking attraction or building that leaves you wondering. In this case, Google Goggles is perfect. Simply get the app going, point your phone at the building in question and if it’s famous your phone will teach you all about it. If nothing comes up, then it’s probably just a pretty building. A great way to learn about important monuments as you travel.

FourSquare

Foursquare

FourSquare is like a fun social network for people who like to travel to new places. Arrive anywhere, fire up this app, and you’ll get some awesome insider tips on what to do there. For example, you might  be advised to buy a slice of pizza, or you may even get an insider tip on what time to arrive later on for when the parties start. You can then leave your own tips for other travellers!

Whatsapp

WhatsApp Messenger

Whatsapp is a fantastic app to have in any country, but it’s especially helpful when you’re travelling. It allows you to send messages and even picture messages to your loved ones, all for just the price of 69p per year! Providing you have wifi, you can do all this and send and receive messages/pictures too. Definitely worth the price.

No matter where you’re travelling in the world, the above apps will help you. You’ll find travelling a breeze, especially when you know the best places to eat, drink, sleep, and visit. You will love how you can get the cheapest flights available, visit the most amazing places, eat the most delicious food, and then avoid jet lag to top it all off. Your friends and family will appreciate being updated regularly too!

All in all, these travel apps are perfect for downloading on to your mobile device before travelling. Sure, you could use websites to help you, but apps use the GPS function on your device, so they know where you are at all times and have information on your location automatically.
