Siemens is presenting a new analog mammography system at the upcoming annual conference of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago, USA. Mammomat Select is designed to deliver high quality regardless of budget restraints in hospitals with high throughput as well as smaller clinics.

Unusual for systems in the lower price segment, Mammomat Select is equipped with a touchscreen that guides clinical personnel through the screening process thanks to simple and intuitive operation. The system also supports isocentric movement. The height of the detector does not need to be reset between each imaging phase, which reduces the time needed for patient screening. To optimally support clinical personnel in setting the dose, Mammomat Select is equipped with the OpDose application. This functionality enables that the radiation dose can be individually set for each patient – without compromising excellent image quality. The appropriate parameters can be selected in accordance with the patient’s breast size and density.

“Mammomat Select represents a completely new system development in the analog mammography segment,” says André Hartung, CEO of the Business Unit X-Ray Products (XP) at Siemens Healthcare. “We want to provide physicians and patients with the benefits of high-quality and low-cost mammography examination – at the lowest dose possible.”

Mammomat Select can be connected to a computed radiography (CR) system via an additional interface to enable an upgrade to digital mammography with storage phosphor plates.
