Sky Released Now TV Smart Box, Great Interface And Affordable

Sky launched its first Now TV Box, providing an easy way to add Smart TV functionality to any television. With this market now becoming crowded, the new Now TV Smart Box aims to help Now TV get ahead of the competition.

Two areas of the box have been focused on the user interface and it’s channel capabilities. Updates to both compliment each other and are all contained within the stylish, slim, black shell. Physically, the box is light to hold (432 grams), although it will rarely need to be picked-up, and it is 165mm x 165mm x 20.5mm, making it an ideal size to fit around an existing TVsetup.

Now TV wants this box to replace any Freeview box you may already have. To that extent, it’s equipped with a digital aerial socket and alongside an HDMI out to connect to your TV. You can enjoy 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound over HDMI, but the output of video is limited to 1080p full HD, so there’s no support for 4K TV.

Other connections include an Ethernet port for a wired internet connection – the smart box does also have built-in wi-fi – a USB connection, and a microSD card slot for viewing media on external devices.

The new Now TV Smart Box offers its users more viewing options than before and you can be purchased as a standalone device or as part of a contractless package. The big change here is the addition of a Freeview tuner, and adding free-to-air TV channels to the option of premium Sky content and catch-up TV channels.
